Parenting Programs

A photo of a parent and childThere is nothing more important than the well-being of children and families. PCAV believes that strengthening families helps prevent child abuse and neglect.

In this section of the website, you will find information about services we offer to parents and families, including Nurturing Parenting Programs, Circle of Parents Support Groups, and Parents' Stress Line.

Nurturing Parenting Programs are curriculum-based programs that work with the entire family. Nurturing Programs focus on family life skills including healthy communication, non-abusive discipline, how to have family meetings, developing empathy, preventing child sexual abuse, substance abuse, dealing with anger, etc.

Circle of Parents Support Groups are professionally facilitated, peer-led, self-help support groups for parents. Circles are ongoing support groups that are co-facilitated by a parent leader and a trained facilitator. They provide an empowering, supportive environment where participants strive to improve their parenting and practice mutual help for the prevention and treatment of child abuse.

Currently, we are also engaged in a pilot study of the InsideOut Dad curriculum which was devised by the National Fatherhood Institute. InsideOut Dad is a curriculum-based fathering program for men in prison. The program is designed to increase knowledge and change attitudes about parenting in order to help incarcerated men learn how to be more involved, responsible, and committed fathers.

Our Parents' Helpline is a resource for parents, professionals, and community members. Informed PCAV staff are available 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM Monday through Friday to provide parenting support, resources, and referrals. Feel free to utilize the Parents’ Help Line for immediate support at 1-800-CHILDREN (1-800-244-5373).
