Understanding and Responding to the Sexual Behaviors of Children

USBC: Understanding the Sexual Behaviors of Children (2 hours)
This training is designed to promote adult understanding of the range sexual behaviors in children aged twelve and under, including behaviors that are developmentally expected, concerning, and abusive. It will explore issues of consent, equality, and coercion, and assist participants in evaluating whether or not behaviors are a problem and why. Participants will: a) summarize distinguish between normal, problematic, and abusive behaviors; b) practice evaluating the sexual behaviors of children. This program is particularly for infant through after school teachers and care givers, and those who support them.

RSBC: Responding to the Sexual Behaviors of Children (2 hours)
This training is designed to prepare adults to respond to the range of children’s sexual behaviors in order to intervene earlier in the development of concerning or sexually abusive patterns. Participants will: a) discuss the shared adult goals for preventing abuse; b) practice responding to the sexual behaviors of children. This program is particularly for infant through after school teachers and care givers, and those who support them, who have previously attended Understanding the Sexual Behaviors of Children.

Completion of this training counts towards Child Development Associate (CDA), Specialized Care, or re-licensing hours in Vermont.
