For the past 42 years, Prevent Child Abuse Vermont (PCAVT) has been working to protect the health and happiness of children in our community. Our board members, volunteers, and staff strive to prevent child abuse by promoting and supporting healthy relationships within families, schools and communities to eliminate child abuse. Programs like Circle of Parents™, The Nurturing Parenting Program®, The Shaken Baby Syndrome Prevention Program, and The Sexual Abuse Free Environment for Teens Program™ (SAFE-T™) have helped Vermont see a 43% decrease in cases of substantiated abuse since 1990.

Vermont has become a national model for child abuse prevention, but there is still much work to be done. Over 800 Vermont children are abused or neglected each year. We need to unite as a statewide community to ensure a safe, nurturing environment for every child growing up in Vermont.

The 2018 WALKS and RUN FOR CHILDREN  provides us with an opportunity to alert Vermonters to the need for a community commitment to child abuse prevention. Sponsors like McDonald’s and National Life have stepped up to help PCAVT send the important message that there is something that everyone can do to help. You don’t have to be a parent to care for the future of Vermont’s children. Every dollar you help raise in the 2018 WALKS and RUN FOR CHILDREN helps support and inform the many Vermonters who are parents, guardians, teachers, and child care professionals. As a united, educated, and supported community, we can better prevent the physical abuse, sexual abuse, emotional maltreatment, and neglect of our children.

Vermont individuals, families, businesses, and organizations will step out to prevent child abuse in Montpelier, Burlington, and Rutland. We invite you to join us, to show your support and to further the mission. Together we will prevent child abuse, step by step by step. Food, snacks, water and tee shirts will be available for all WALKERS.

There will be a special guest in Montpelier and Burlington, the amazing Spider-Man, who has a long history of being a proponent of child abuse prevention. Come and see Spidey, and for pledges of $100 or more, get your picture taken with him. There will be team prizes for the top three teams at each WALK that raise the most in pledges. We have a wonderful assortment of raffle prizes at all three WALKS. The registration is open at 8:00 and the WALKS and RUN start at 10:00.
