Discover Juneteenth community events across the state this weekend!

Vermonters across the state are commemorating Juneteenth this weekend with celebrations, community conversations, food, art, music and more.

The day itself has had many names - Freedom's Eve, Emancipation Day, Jubilee Day - and has long been celebrated by Black Americans to recognize the day in 1865 when Union soldiers arrived in Texas bringing news of the end of slavery. In 2021, it was officially recognized as a U.S. federal holiday.

Find Juneteenth events and activities in your community, like Clemmons Family Farm's DIY Celebration Kit, a free public Juneteenth Community Celebration hosted by SVSU, an exhibit opening at the Old Stone House Museum on Black soldiers in the Civil War, and a concert in Burlington with Arrested Development, among others.
