As April approaches, it is both a time to celebrate our progress and to reflect on the many ways we can do more to prevent child abuse in Vermont. While this topic can often feel uncomfortable to discuss, prevention is about providing education and support to all so that every child has a safe and happy childhood.
Our collective efforts, made by parents, volunteers, professionals, and non-profit organizations with support from local, state, and federal agencies, have made a positive impact. As a result, we’ve seen a decrease in cases of child sexual abuse, abusive head trauma, and other forms of physical and emotional abuse. Because of these efforts, parents feel supported to create environments where children can thrive.
That said, there is always more work to be done, and you can help make a difference! Here are a few ways you can be a part of the solution within your community:
Follow Prevent Child Abuse Vermont on Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok, and engage with our posts by liking and sharing.
Plant a Pinwheel Garden at home or at work, and encourage local schools, libraries, and town offices to do the same. Pinwheels are the national symbol for Child Abuse Prevention Month. You can purchase them on our website at www.pcavt.org for just $1 per pinwheel.
Share a photo of your pinwheel garden! You can email your photo to pcavt@pcavt.org or tag us on social media.
